LAYING A FOUNDATION
It is not by accident that our lightweight GREENWAY Stone
products so closely resemble our actual cast stone counterparts.
In fact their molds are fashioned from the exact pieces that
our sister company, Marbon, Inc. creates in stone. While we
have been engaged in the cast stone industry for more than 12
years, the Marbon name, was officially founded in 1994, and
has become one of the most successful cast stone manufacturers
in the Southeastern United States.
We originally manufactured and installed what is referred to
as “Full Weight” cast stone, exclusively. As projects were completed
with these extremely heavy materials, there was a growing concern
amongst ownership about the safety of installation and continued
adherence of the products. In addition, because of the weight
and nature of the materials, only highly skilled “masons” can
be employed to perform the work.
Since many projects require several of these craftsmen to be
able to lift, position, and attach the cumbersome stone pieces,
a considerable amount is added to the cost associated with using
these materials. It is for this reason that Marbon was formed
and also began to manufacture what is referred to in the industry
as “GFRC” (Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete).
This method of adding glass fiber to the stone mixture during
the molding process lessens the weight of the material, while
at the same time adding strength. Despite this, the “GFRC” is
still weighty and difficult to work with, and still requires
“masons” for installation. It is for these reasons that those
within the cast stone industry have been searching many years
for a lightweight replacement material that would also possess
great durability, and a realistic “cast stone” appearance, that
was not present in existing “EPS”(Foam) products. Marbons’ ownership
was a leading force in this search.
